College Credit

Courses presented at NFA are equal in difficulty to those at the college/university level. Although the Academy itself is not an accredited institution, completed NFA courses may count as credits toward a college degree program. Students should be aware, however, that not all colleges/universities accept these credits.

The American Council on Education/College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE/CCRS) annually reviews Academy courses and makes recommendations for credit equivalencies. ACE/CCRS reviews formal training developed outside colleges and universities and publishes its recommendations in The National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs, used by educational institutions throughout the country. This guide is now searchable online via the ACE Web site. NFA course descriptions also include the ACE recommendation for credit hours, curricula, and level. Newly developed courses not included in the previous ACE review receive credit equivalency evaluations after the next annual review. At that time, the students who have already completed the course become eligible for credit for that course.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), NFA is awarding CEUs for residential courses completed after October 1, 2008. The CEU is a standard unit of measure, with one CEU representing ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education/training experience. The CEUs will be printed on the student’s end-of-course certificate, so they will have immediate documentation of their work. Please note that CEUs cannot be granted for on-campus courses taken before October 1, 2008.
